About Us

Phlebotomy Training Services (PTS) was founded in July 2007 by Alison Purkiss (Cert Ed). Alison is a phlebotomist of over 10 years who has worked in hospitals and GP practices across the NHS. Alison is an expert in venepuncture and cannulation, and is also a trained teacher. Alison earned her Certificate in Education in September 1995.

Alison wrote the first phlebotomy courses to be educationally accredited by a non-profit UK awarding body. Currently accredited by the Open College Network North East Region, PTS are proud to still offer the only educationally accredited phlebotomy courses in the UK.
Unfortunately there is a lack of structured training for phlebotomists in the UK. However PTS' courses are designed to give learners all the skills and knowledge they require to start their career as a phlebotomist in a structured and educational setting

PTS’ courses are all nationally recognised, and have been delivered to over 2000 students across the UK, Ireland and Cyprus. All of PTS’ courses are mapped directly to the CHS132 (The National Occupational Standard for Phlebotomy written by Skills For Health) so NHS managers and staff use them nationwide to show the high quality of the training they/their team have received.

PTS courses are also available to private companies and individuals across the UK, and are run publicly nearly every weekend. PTS courses have helped thousands of people to find work within the NHS and private healthcare companies.

PTS is quickly becoming the largest authority on phlebotomy training in Great Britain, and can not only offer people the highest quality training available in the UK, but can also offer students a certificate that is accredited and well-respected amongst healthcare professionals.

PTS also offers employers the peace of mind that their employees have learnt the best practice in phlebotomy.

As the most experienced and professional specialist phlebotomy training company in the UK, PTS is the place to come for venepuncture and cannulation training, no matter who you are.

We regularly hold training sessions that are open to members of the general public who want to learn phlebotomy or expand their existing skills. Venues include London, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham York and Bristol. We also offer in-house training to the staff of hospitals, nursing homes and universities and colleges all over the country.
